We had two beautiful trips today with orca sightings on both tours, and we were thoroughly spoiled watching them travel and socialize in the sunshine. On our morning tour, we first encountered a few individuals spread out over an area, until we had a great look at a group further towards the West. In the afternoon, we were with two groups of orcas not too far out, and they started playing and spy-hopping next to our stationary boat. Spy hops are rather rare to see here as the orcas are mostly busy feeding or travelling, but this time we even saw a triple spy hop of three juveniles. We have cancelled our tours tomorrow due to bad weather conditions, but we are hoping for some more amazing encounters on Wednesday and there are a few spaces left for you to join us!

Good morning,
Today 27.3.17 we take our afternoon (at 14:00) tour out from Ólafsvík.

We had two very pretty tours today with orcas on both trips and even sperm whales in the afternoon! While we started closer to land in the morning and had a look at the orcas, we then ventured further off the tip of the peninsula in the afternoon. We then spotted sperm whale blows far in the distance and got to see at least 7 sperm whales closer to us. They were lifting their flukes up in front of the glacier, which was a sight to behold! The orcas made some close approaches to our stationary boat, and especially the males were very impressive to watch in the sunshine today.

We were running both a morning and an afternoon tour today. In the morning, we scouted towards the Northwest, and in the afternoon all the way towards West. Unfortunately, we did not spot any cetaceans, but we saw a lot of grey seals at the island on the morning tour, and in the afternoon we scouted through an area where hundreds of birds were feeding. They were picking up capelin, which is the fish that attracts the humpback whales. We are hoping to see some whales on our tours tomorrow – both trips will be leaving from Ólafsvík!

Due to good wether for today and tomorrow, we will be leaving from the harbor in Ólafsvík. This allows us to go further out and gives us hope to see more whales and hopefully other species. Please pay attention to your given information and confirm your tour with 24 hours before departure.

We had two beautiful sunshine tours today! On our morning tour, we spotted a group of about 20 white-beaked dolphins early on during the trip. They were feeding at the mouth of Grundarfjördur, together with hundreds of gulls hovering over them and trying to steal bits of the fish. The gulls were picking up capelin, which is the fish currently moving into Breidafjördur and is also attracting the humpback whales. Indeed, we also spotted a humpback whale on this trip, once we went further out! This humpback whale went for long dives, but we could see it arching the back on the water surface several times. On our afternoon trip, we, once again, spotted the white-beaked dolphins in the sunshine – this time a smaller group. We had to cancel our tours tomorrow due to bad weather conditions, but we hope to get out on sea again on Sunday.

Due to unfavorable weather conditions, we only had one tour today in the afternoon. We scouted all the way to the underwater canyone in the deeper waters of Breidafjördur, but, unfortunately, did not spot any cetaceans. There were several gannets flying in front of the boat, and at the island Melrakkaey we got to see a grey seal and two sea eagles. Our tours tomorrow are cancelled due to bad weather conditions, but we hope to get out on sea again on Friday!

We had two whale watching trips going out today, and while our morning passengers were unfortunate and did not encounter any cetaceans on their tour, the orcas showed up just in time for our afternoon trip! We did not even have to go too far out to spot a group of 4 – two males and two females – at the beginning, and they soon joined up with more individuals. It was great to see them travelling in Breidafjördur! We had to cancel our trips tomorrow due to bad weather conditions, but we are hoping to get out on sea again on Wednesday.

We had two whale watching trips today. On our morning trip we scouted towards the West along the peninsula, but did not spot any cetaceans. Therefore, we decided to search towards East in the afternoon, but we did not even have to go out of the fjord to spot a whale! There was a humpback whale right in Grundarfjördur when we went out again just after 2pm! The animal was taking long dives and we almost went past it on the way out. But in the calm waters of the fjord it was hard to miss, even though it always came up in a different spot after foraging dives. We then ventured further out and spotted a seal and a sea eagle that was flying across the fjord in front of the boat. There are two trips scheduled for tomorrow, and both of them are fully booked, but we still have availability for you on Tuesday afternoon.
