WHALE WATCHING SNÆFELLSNES
01/07/2017: In extremely calm sea conditions, two sperm whale flukes went up and down next to our boat today. It was a sight to behold in the mirror-like waters of Breidafjörður. We could see for kilometers ahead of us, and also spotted two sperm whale flukes going down really far away. Every bird sitting on the water looked really big, even the small puffins, and it was awesome to observe the fulmars mirrored in the water while flying low along the boat. We are hoping for more stunning weather in the next few days, and we are running one trip tomorrow at 10am!

WHALE WATCHING SNÆFELLSNES
30/06/2017: It was sperm whale “rush hour“ here at Ólafsvík today! That’s what our guide Jo said when we pulled back into the harbour after our second tour of the day. In the morning, we had several sperm whale flukes going down at a distance, with one individual up close, but the “rush hour” happened on the afternoon tour. We then suddenly had sperm whales come up all around the boat, and it was even hard to decide, which sperm whale we should have a look at first! On the way home from the second tour, we also had two harbour porpoises pop up next to us. We will run one tour tomorrow at 10am.

WHALE WATCHING SNÆFELLSNES
29/06/2017: We had one tour today along the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and started out by watching a group of 7 orcas foraging and travelling parallel to our boat. One of the juveniles even breached! As we got into the deeper waters, we spotted four sperm whales at a distance, but, unfortunately, all of them lifted their flukes and went down for a dive before we could get to them. Tomorrow we will be running two tours at 10am and 2pm and you are welcome to join us!

WHALE WATCHING SNÆFELLSNES
28/06/2017: We had one morning tour out of Ólafsvík, and scouted along the underwater dropoff in the deeper waters of Breidafjördur. We came across three sperm whales, and all three of them lifted their flukes high out of the water. We got to see two of the flukes really close to the boat, and the peninsula made for a magnificent backdrop. There is one tour scheduled at 2pm tomorrow, and we still have spaces available for you!

WHALE WATCHING SNÆFELLSNES
27/06/2017: We had one whale watching tour this morning, and scouted both towards the West and the North in Breiðafjörður. As we came into the deeper waters, we spotted several sperm whales that lifted their flukes out of the water, but mostly at a greater distance. But then we spotted a pod of pilot whales! As we approached this group and looked at these members of the “blackfish” family, we also noticed a small group of white-beaked dolphins, that started leaping out of the water. They shortly came to check on our boat, and then sped up to join the pilot whales in some foraging activity. We are running one whale watching tour at 10am tomorrow, and there is still space if you would like to join us!

WHALE WATCHING SNÆFELLSNES
26/06/2017: We had two tours out of Ólafsvík today in nice weather conditions. On our morning tour, we spotted orcas spread out over a big area! Soon they were coming up all around us. Two juveniles were playing and fooling around with each other, and we got to see some tiny calves as well! In the afternoon we started out with a long scout towards the West and were successful in finding several sperm whales lifting their flukes into the air. On the way home we then also spotted orcas again that were coming in from the East. Our sightings are great at the moment – we will run one tour tomorrow at 10am and you are welcome to join us!

WHALE WATCHING SNÆFELLSNES
25/06/2017: Today was the day of sperm whales here in Breiðafjörður! On both our tours we spotted sperm whales in the deeper waters along the drop-off, and got to see several flukes lifted up into the air. We could get our passengers a closer look on both trips, but there were numerous blows in a distance, especially in the afternoon. Each time we went out of and back into the harbour we encountered a white-beaked dolphin shortly before – this individual seemed to be on its own and was naturally a bit elusive.

WHALE WATCHING SNÆFELLSNES

We had two whale watching tours out of Ólafsvík today, and got to see cetaceans on both of them. Whereas we spotted one sperm whale in the morning and saw him lifting his fluke next to the boat, we then started out with a group of white-beaked dolphins in the afternoon. After we had watched the white-beaked dolphins travelling East for a while, we headed further out along the underwater canyon, and also spotted a sperm whale on this tour. As we came back towards land, we found three groups of orcas spread out at the peninsula tip! What an awesome sight to have so many of them in calm waters and coming up all around us. We are running one whale watching tour from Ólafsvík tomorrow afternoon at 2pm, and you can join us on this tour as we have plenty of spaces left!
