We had two tours today, and they were both beautiful in different ways. In the morning, we started off by spotting a larger group of white-beaked dolphins just outside Ólafsvík. We then ventured out towards the open sea for quite a while until we suddenly spotted a sperm whale blow! We got to see the fluke of the sperm whale once he was going for a deep dive, and spotted another sperm whale at a distance. That same moment we also encountered the killer whales that were spread out in the area and soon we had them all around the boat. In the afternoon, we did not have to search for so long for the orcas, as we encountered a group feeding underneath hundreds of gannets and gulls. After another scout in the area, we spotted yet another orca group, and came past the first group on our way back home. Today we could hardly catch our breath and just one word comes to mind: sublime!

Whereas our morning tour only got a glimpse of a small group of white-beaked dolphins, our afternoon tour today was certainly very lucky to spot 5 orcas travelling in Breidafjördur. As weather conditions in the afternoon finally allowed for a longer scout further out, we took our chances and were rewarded by a beautiful sighting with orcas very calm next to the boat. We have two trips planned tomorrow – our morning tour is already fully booked, but there is still space in the afternoon.

Today we spent two very nice tours in the company of white-beaked dolphins. On our morning tour, we saw a larger group coming in from the Northwest and North, and they soon would catch up with the boat and zigzag underneath the bow. In the afternoon, we came across a smaller group of white-beaked dolphins, but they also approached the boat closely and gave us great looks of them all around the boat. We are running two tours tomorrow, and we are fully booked in the morning, but there are still spaces available in the afternoon.

Today the weather allowed us to run two tours at 10am and 2pm. On the morning tour, we came across a playful group of white-beaked dolphins. There were about 10 individuals in the pod, and they were repeatedly leaping out of the water. We did not spot any cetaceans in the afternoon, but saw an incredibly high number of gulls on the island Melrakkaey. Our tours tomorrow are cancelled due to bad weather conditions.

Today we spotted white-beaked dolphins again! We had one tour at 10am and went out towards West and Northwest for our search, when we spotted the dolphins in the deeper waters. It was only a few individuals, but they were very calm next to the boat and even went right under our bow a few times. On the way home we had a look at the island Melrakkaey and its birdlife. Tomorrow’s afternoon tour is cancelled, but we hope to get out in the morning.

As we had scouted towards the West yesterday, we wanted to try our luck in the East today on our 2pm tour. Battling the strong wind, we came across a lot of Northern gannets feeding in two different areas – they dive-bombed into the water a lot! Sadly, we did not spot any fins underneath the birds, but this gives us hope that there might be a chance for it soon.
